–SUMMARY: The Director of Traditional Music Ministry will plan, prepare and execute the traditional
worship service, seasonal programs, and lead a variety of volunteers. This person will work closely
with the Pastor to develop services and choose music that supports and enhances the message of
the day that is appropriate in both length and style for worship at FUMC. At our traditional service we
have a Chancel Choir, Bell Choir and children’s music ministry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Directs all Choral Music for our Traditional service, including directing rehearsals and choosing
all the anthems and service music
– Directs Christmas and Easter Cantatas including hiring extra musicians.
– Schedules hymn leaders for the Traditional Service
– Directs the Bell Choir
– Oversees Children’s Music
– Coordinates Children/Youth special programing
– Works with traditional service tech team
– Schedules volunteer conductors for the choir during the summer
– Assists in the development and management of the Music Ministry budget
– Other duties as assigned

– Strong conducting skills
– Ability to establish effective working relationships with volunteers, employees, supervisors, and
the congregation
– Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; and
– Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES, AND/OR TRAINING REQUIRED:
– Degree in music from an accredited institution preferred.

– 2-3 years of experience as a director or assistant director preferred.
TIME COMMITMENT: This position is responsible for results rather than hours worked. The
estimated average is 15-20 hours per week, including rehearsals, regular and special services (Lent,
Advent, and Christmas), preparation time, participation in weekly meetings with the pastor, time to
research appropriate music, and leading the music ministry 39 Sundays per year (September-May).
